This research was conducted in the city of Cuenca and focuses on enhancing the value of the Plaza de las Flores (Flower Square), based on an appreciation of the work and cultural identity of the flower growers who are part of the Virgen del Tránsito Flower and Plant Association. The main problem stems from the limited social and cultural visibility of their daily work, as well as the public's lack of awareness regarding the processes, history, traditions, and meanings surrounding this emblematic space. The overall objective of the project was to disseminate and reinforce the cultural identity of the flower growers in the Plaza de las Flores through the application of graphic design and audiovisual resources. To this end, a qualitative methodology with a participatory approach was employed, using techniques such as interviews, direct and indirect observation, and photographic and audiovisual documentation, which helped to gather information from the experiences and voices of the participants. As a result, an audiovisual documentary was developed, accompanied by a visual identity, promotional graphic elements, and an identity manual, ensuring visual and communicative coherence. These products allow us to convey the history, traditions, and daily reality of flower growers, generating a positive impact on public perception.

This study explores the invisibility and social stigma faced by women recyclers from the COOPCOAMA cooperative in the city of Cuenca. It proposes the development of a documentary book and audiovisual capsules as communication strategies aimed at strengthening their professional identity and social recognition. The research was conducted using a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data reveal that although 100% of the cooperative members express pride in their work, Cuenca’s society still tends to perceive them through invisibility or associate them with indigence. Qualitative findings, based on interviews with specialists in sociology, communication, and photography, identified structural barriers such as the “double workload” and the persistent perception of recycling as an invisible or marginalized occupation. The results also indicate a high level of public receptiveness toward visual materials capable of transforming social imaginaries. The study concludes that visual communication design, by recognizing the technical skill and professional identity of women recyclers, becomes a bridge toward social acknowledgment. The project demonstrates that a sober and well-structured graphic representation can challenge and shift stigmas associated with the profession, fostering a transformation in public perception toward the dignification of COOPCOAMA women recyclers’ work.

This research develops an educational graphic design proposal aimed at strengthening reading comprehension as a support for speech therapy in children at the Anuma Comprehensive Therapy Center in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. The project arose from the identification of a lack of structured visual teaching materials specifically adapted to the cognitive and linguistic needs of children with language development difficulties. The study adopts a mixed methodological approach, combining qualitative techniques (interviews, direct observation, and focus groups) and quantitative techniques (Likert scale surveys), which made it possible to diagnose the real needs of the therapeutic context and validate the functionality of the designed prototypes. Conceptually, the proposal is based on theories of reading comprehension, multimodal learning, visual narrative, cognitive scaffolding, and inclusive design, positioning graphic design as a cognitive mediator within the therapeutic process. As a result, a system of teaching materials was developed, consisting of three illustrated books with a sequential narrative structure, legible fonts, and a minimalist visual style for children, aimed at children aged 3 to 7. Interdisciplinary validation showed high levels of relevance (4.8), sefulness (4.7), effectiveness (4.6), and clarity (4.4), confirming the material's viability in the therapeutic environment. It is concluded that graphic design, when grounded in theory and methodology, can transcend its aesthetic function and become a strategic tool for enhancing cognitive and communicative processes in childhood, bringing innovation to the field of educational design and speech therapy.

This research and design project addresses the problem of low interest, motivation, and learning difficulties in social sciences among seventh-grade students at Bell Academy. An initial assessment based on surveys and interviews was conducted, revealing that traditional teaching methods and a lack of visual aids hinder the assimilation of key content. To address this need, a set of educational board games was designed based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Design Thinking. The final proposal consists of the games Mentor, focused on recognizing and learning about the presidents of Ecuador; Travesia, a board game based on Columbus' journey during colonization; and Trivia, a competitive question-and-answer game on key topics in the subject. These resources were validated at the educational institution, showing a change in student learning and motivation.

(Instituto Superior Tecnológico Particular Sudamericano, 2026) Padilla Pintado Mariangel
At the CoDa Psychological Center in the city of Cuenca, the absence of a structured editorial resource to continuously support the therapeutic process of women with codependent behaviors was identified. Although treatment is carried out during consultations through the ten steps developed at the center, there was no tangible tool to facilitate reflection, personal record keeping, and continuity of the process beyond the clinical setting. This limitation restricts the strengthening of patients’ self-awareness and emotional autonomy. In response to this need, this thesis proposes the design and development of an illustrated therapeutic planner aimed at women between the ages of 24 and 35 who attend the center. The project is grounded in the Design Thinking approach and User-Centered Design, integrating contextual research, interviews, direct observation, and a review of therapeutic content based on the book Women Who Love Too Much. The proposal materializes as a spiral-bound A5-format planner that incorporatesthe ten therapeutic steps, introspective exercises, guided writing spaces, and symbolic illustrations that accompany the emotional process. Beyond an aesthetic solution, the project positions editorial design as a strategic support tool within the field of mental health, strengthening treatment continuity and promoting patients’ emotional autonomy.
