Mujeres en el desarrollo de software: trayectorias, desafíos y prejuicios de género
(Instituto Superior Tecnológico Particular Sudamericano, 2025) Pinguil Ramón Nathaly Denisse
Nowadays, female participation in software development is significantly lower compared to male participation. This study analyzed the trajectories and experiences of eight women who graduated between 2019 and 2024 from the Instituto Tecnológico Superior Sudamericano in Cuenca, Ecuador, to identify factors influencing their career choices and professional performance. Using a quantitative and descriptive approach, surveys revealed challenges such as gender bias, a lack of female role models, and non-inclusive work environments. The results showed that independent professionals face fewer barriers compared to those in dependent employment, who reported being assigned tasks unrelated to their roles and experiencing difficulties balancing personal and professional lives due to societal expectations. Despite these barriers, participants demonstrated that professional success is achievable, excelling in fields such as software development, data science, and cybersecurity. The study concludes that it is necessary to implement inclusive policies to reduce the gender gap, promote equal opportunities, and strengthen vocational guidance from an early age, encouraging girls to participate in STEM programs. These actions are essential to creating a more equitable work environment and increasing female representation in the sector.
