This research develops an educational graphic design proposal aimed at strengthening reading comprehension as a support for speech therapy in children at the Anuma Comprehensive Therapy Center in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. The project arose from the identification of a lack of structured visual teaching materials specifically adapted to the cognitive and linguistic needs of children with language development difficulties. The study adopts a mixed methodological approach, combining qualitative techniques (interviews, direct observation, and focus groups) and quantitative techniques (Likert scale surveys), which made it possible to diagnose the real needs of the therapeutic context and validate the functionality of the designed prototypes. Conceptually, the proposal is based on theories of reading comprehension, multimodal learning, visual narrative, cognitive scaffolding, and inclusive design, positioning graphic design as a cognitive mediator within the therapeutic process. As a result, a system of teaching materials was developed, consisting of three illustrated books with a sequential narrative structure, legible fonts, and a minimalist visual style for children, aimed at children aged 3 to 7. Interdisciplinary validation showed high levels of relevance (4.8), sefulness (4.7), effectiveness (4.6), and clarity (4.4), confirming the material's viability in the therapeutic environment. It is concluded that graphic design, when grounded in theory and methodology, can transcend its aesthetic function and become a strategic tool for enhancing cognitive and communicative processes in childhood, bringing innovation to the field of educational design and speech therapy.
