Desarrollo de una aplicación móvil basada en comunicación aumentativa y alternativa para personas con síndrome de Down del centro acción social municipal de Cuenca
(Instituto Superior Tecnológico Particular Sudamericano, 2026) Joseph Dario Quito Jaramillo
The Municipal Social Action Center of Cuenca (CASMC) administers the PLS-5 instrument manually, without a system that allows recording, comparing, or systematically tracking the communicative development of its patients with Down syndrome. Given this situation, the project's purpose was to develop the first beta of a mobile application that digitizes the administration of the PLS-5 and integrates a module of communicative stimulation activities based on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). A diagnosis was carried out through a semi-structured interview with the center's speech-language pathologist and a documentary review of the PLS-5 administration and scoring manual, which allowed the application's requirements to be identified. Development was carried out under the agile Scrum methodology, using Flutter and Supabase, organized into two sprints that covered patient management, therapist access, PLS-5 evaluation with automatic score calculation, and AAC stimulation activities. The diagnosis revealed accessibility needs, developmental age ranges, and the center's technological infrastructure, which guided the design of the proposal. As a result, a functional beta was obtained that digitizes the evaluation, stimulation, and follow-up cycle, validated through a usability questionnaire applied to the therapists. The findings confirm that the proposal is technically, operationally, and economically viable, and constitutes a concrete contribution given that no such integrated tool for this population currently exists within the country.
